Vivaer® Procedure

What is nasal obstruction?

Ever experience trouble breathing through your nose, sleep disruptions, snoring, or fatigue? If so, you may be suffering from something known as nasal obstruction. Nasal obstruction defines a condition in which a part of the nasal passage is obstructed or blocked, preventing easy airflow through your nostrils. When air cannot flow freely in and out of your nose, you may experience a “stuffy nose.” Other symptoms of nasal obstruction include:
  • Difficulty breathing through your nose
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Nasal congestion
  • Trouble breathing during physical activity

There are potential at-home treatments available for nasal obstruction, however, these typically only provide short-term relief. To really get to the bottom of nasal obstruction, the nasal airway needs to be opened.

To find out if you are a candidate for VivAer®, you can utilize two easy tests, Cottle’s Maneuver, and the NOSE Score.

Cottle’s maneuver

To try out the Cottle’s maneuver, do the following:
  • Place your fingertips on your cheeks on both sides of your nose.
  • Press down lightly while pulling outward, opening your nasal passage.
  • While pressing down, breathe through your nose.
If you find yourself breathing better in this position, you would likely be a good candidate for Vivaer® .
