When should I take my child to see a Pediatric ENT Specialist?

When your child isn’t feeling well it can be challenging; they’re cranky and you’re cranky. You’ve taken them to the pediatrician several times in the past few months, for the same symptoms, and they are repeatedly diagnosed with the same illness; an ear infection, strep throat, tonsillitis, etc. When this happens, it’s time to consult with a Pediatric ENT Specialist and more often than not, your pediatrician will make the recommendation. Pediatric ENTs (Otolaryngologists) specialize in diagnosing and treating ear, nose, throat, head or neck problems for infants up to teenagers.

Let’s talk Ear Infections

Ear infections are very common in children, in fact they are one of the most common childhood illnesses. However, there are certain times that warrant an appointment with a Pediatric ENT over your normal pediatrician.

  • More than 4 ear infections in a year
  • Persistent hearing loss or change in hearing
  • Ear infection with a ruptured eardrum
  • Ear infections that have been treated with multiple antibiotics
  • 3+ months with fluid in the ears

Other reasons to see a Pediatric ENT

  • Chronic tonsillitis, sore throats or sinus infections
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Snoring issues that interrupt sleep
  • Swelling or lump on the neck

How to choose a Pediatric Otolaryngologist

Choose a Pediatric ENT who understands that children are not simply small adults; children have unique physical and emotional needs. Your child may not always be able to express themselves and tell you what’s bothering them, so you’ll need to find someone who makes them feel at ease.

Why choose ENT and Allergy Specialists for you child?

Our Board-Certified physicians have received specialized training in the unique care of pediatric ear, nose, and throat, allergy, and asthma conditions. We understand that when your child is suffering, your family is too. That’s why we offer complete and compassionate care with on-call physicians 24hours a day. For appointments.
