Learn why Colleen O’Donnell, Au.D., CCA became an Audiologist.
t My grandmother and I were very close. She lived only a few minutes away and I either spoke or visited with her almost daily. Since I was one of her younger grandchildren, I never knew Gram without hearing loss. Over time it became increasingly difficult to converse with Gram, so she always wore her hearing aids. One day I took her for an audiology appointment at Bloomsburg University.
I was intrigued and wanted to learn more about the field. I was inspired by the many services in addition to hearing aids that are within an Audiologist’s scope of practice. At that point, I knew that I wanted to become an Audiologist to help Gram and others with audiology-related issues.
A few years later I earned an Audiology degree from Bloomsburg University and was finally able to help Gram. It gave us an additional special bond for many years until she passed away at the age of 97. I just wish she could have been here a few years longer when I earned a Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Florida.
