Vertigo Characteristics
A common misperception is that “vertigo” is equivalent to any type of dizziness, when in fact it is a specific type of dizziness characterized by a sense of spinning or movement of the world around you when there is no actual movement. There are many different types and causes of dizziness and they often can be difficult to differentiate. Dizziness and balance disorders may result from a multitude of problems involving the central nervous system or brain, the inner ear balance organ and cardiovascular system. In addition chronic back and spine conditions, diabetes and problems that affect sensation in the feet and legs can also affect ones balance.
The physicians at ENT and Allergy Specialists offer specialized testing to differentiate between these different types of dizziness and balance dysfunction. Our physicians are experts in diagnosing and treating common ear disorders such as BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), Labyrinthitis and Eustachian tube dysfunction. Our physicians offer and perform the Epley maneuver routinely, which is the treatment for BPPV.
