For many people, it can seem like cold and allergy season lasts an eternity.  Sinusitis affects one in eight adults, and sufferers are often truly miserable, with intense facial pain and nasal congestion, loss of smell and taste, headache, fatigue, and even depression.  A Harvard study comparing the impact of chronic sinusitis with that of other chronic illnesses — including heart failure, back pain, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease — found that sinusitis sufferers reported the highest levels of pain and the lowest levels of social functioning, and significant problems with work, energy, and mental health.

I wanted to let you know about a breakthrough medical device available now in the Philadelphia area for people suffering from chronic sinusitis — Propel® Sinus Stent. I recently began treating my patients with Propel® with highly positive results.

Sinus surgery used to be a last resort, with results that often didn’t last, leading to additional surgeries in approximately one in four patients.  The advent of Propel® has made sinus surgery a much more attractive option.  Inserted following the procedure, the spring-like, lightweight stent expands to prop open the sinus and gradually delivers anti-inflammatory medication directly to the sinus lining, and then dissolves.  The result is improved surgical outcomes by reducing postoperative inflammation and scarring, reducing the need for additional surgical procedures as well as oral steroids, and their potential side effects.

I am happy to tell you more, and can connect you with patients who have been treated with Propel®.  An animation can be viewed at www.MySinusitis.com.
