What we offer that a discount store or stand-alone Audiologist doesn’t
The ability to hear is essential to your quality of life. When hearing is impaired, relationships, the ability to work, and so much more can be negatively affected.
Let Us Help You Manage Hearing Loss
Hearing loss may be caused by aging, certain medical conditions, medications, ear wax, or an injury. If you are experiencing hearing issues, it’s important to have a medical exam performed by an ENT doctor. Our ENT Specialists consult with our in-house Audiologists and together, they conduct hearing tests that evaluate your hearing and determine if a hearing aid is right for you.
Prescription Hearing Aids versus Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids
Over-the-Counter hearing aids may be purchased without a prior medical exam or prescription, like reading glasses. The main concern with not having a prior medical exam is that approximately 1/3 of individuals with hearing loss have some underlying issue that will go undiagnosed and may get worse.
Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids
- appropriate for mild hearing loss ONLY
- no medical exam included
- less sophisticated technology (versus prescription) to make them less expensive
- don’t offer a customized fit; negatively impacting the way that you hear (i.e.: no prescription)
- prolong proper treatment – many people will become dissatisfied and find the need to proceed with an Audiologist
- no maintenance agreement or warranty. Need to see an audiologist to maintain and repair the hearing aid anyway!
Prescription Hearing Aids
- appropriate for any hearing loss, mild to extensive
- includes a thorough medical exam, a hearing test, and a prescription written by a Physician and an Audiologist for the hearing aid (just like glasses/corrective lenses)
- well-fitted hearing aids are advanced devices that process sound based on the individual’s needs
- customizable – based on your needs, ability to handle specific hearing aid styles and sizes, and your budget
- an audiologist is your resource for optimizing the hearing aids and answering any questions
- cost is related to the sophisticated technology
- come with a manufacturer’s warranty, additional services, and a trial period = cost savings
Already using Hearing Aids?
It is extremely important that individuals who use hearing aids schedule follow-up appointments regularly. Our Audiologists will:
- verify hearing aid programming for potential/gradual hearing changes to ensure correct amplification
- perform routine maintenance and cleanings to prolong the longevity of the hearing aids
Continuity of Care.
We offer multiple services that you need that you can’t get from a stand-alone Audiologist, or when you purchase over-the-counter hearing aids
- Medical exam with an Ear, Nose, and Throat medical professional – 1/3 of hearing loss patients have a medical problem that can be treated to improve hearing.
- Annual hearing tests
- Maintenance of hearing aids—sometimes they just need fixing!
- Ear wax removal
